Eva Longoria Teaches Me a Lesson

Piers Morgan was having a swell time with Eva Longoria last night.

Let me get this out of the way – she is a lovely woman, obviously beautiful, yet also impressively composed and direct, allowing her conduct to flow through reflective thought rather than emotion or fame.

Piers was in heaven – cracking jokes about Eva bearing his children. The whole interview made me smile for some reason (might have been the wine!).

But my point is not to gush – I don’t think – it is more to comment on what she has taught me.

During the interview she talked about how she doesn’t stop living her life just because the paparazzi is lurking, and I can’t think of a better analogy for what I do. I think the willingness to shoot from the heart rather than from the head is one of the most important concepts when it comes to writing.

It doesn’t matter which type of writing – fiction or travel or business – the best thing I can do is let it pour out, not worry about filtering thoughts for this reason or that.  This doesn’t mean the flow has to be irresponsible or crass. The goal is for my work to be down-to-earth and approachable.

That said, Eva, write me.

I have some things that are very true that I can tell you, the truest of which being that I would have no problem being your boy toy.
