The Feast Awaits: Southern Culinary Treats in St. Simons

Tomorrow I’ll leave our Nation’s Capital and drive south on Interstate 95, stopping overnight in Wilmington, North Carolina, before continuing on down to St. Simons off the coast of Georgia.

I’ll be staying at the King and Prince Resort on St. Simons, sampling Southern cuisine of shrimp and grits, honey, pecans, peaches, and barbecue over the course of the three-night stay. I will also explore the island by bike (over 21 miles of trails), participate in a seafood demo, and set out on an authentic shrimping boat to try my hand at tossing the net and sorting the catch.

In November I visited Eagle Island – also off the southern coast of Georgia – and I had a wonderful time learning to make a low-country seafood boil, drinking bourbon from conch shells, skinny dipping in the Atlantic Ocean, stalking baby alligators and experiencing what would become my #5 happy hour spot of 2011.

After a few days at the King and Prince I will head further south into Orlando and then back up to Savannah, but we’ll talk about that later.

I’m really anticipating my stay at the King and Prince – the photos look very relaxing and the weather should be spot on. Here’s a preview photo:
