Testing Out the Specials at El Paseo

My mom and I had a nice walk yesterday morning along the waterfront.

Great views, good spirits (see photos below).

After I logged a few work hours we continued our stroll up State Street, wandering around until we found a place that enticed us to duck in.

I wanted to show her the historic El Paseo Restaurant – at least a walk through – it’s a beautiful/interesting building.

In my opinion it looks nothing like a Mexican restaurant – or at least nothing like I would expect.  But I was thirsty and I had heard they served $1.95 margaritas.

My mother looked shocked and said, “Will, how good can they be for $1.95?”

El Paseo Restaurant

“How bad can they be for $1.95?”  I replied.

Turns out, pretty bad!

And we found out the $1.95 special is only on Monday – they are $3.95 every other day.

Oh well.

I ordered the guacamole to save my taste buds.  It was good and we ate it – but the guac at Los Arroyos blows it away.

We were having a good time though and my mother could not resist the smell of the ribs coming from the man’s plate next to us at the bar, and we split an order.  The ribs are only offered on Thursdays, but are a bargain at $9.99 and made with tequila.

You tell me… think she liked them? (I thought the mashed potatoes that were served on the side were delicious.)

Later, we stopped in at Enterprise Fish Co.

Once again I am being selfish and saving it for my story for GoNOMAD.

The margaritas... in pint glasses. Uh.

This is half the plate of ribs.
